About this role
An Automotive Detailer is responsible for cleaning, restoring, and maintaining the appearance of vehicles to dealership, company, or customer standards. This role involves performing thorough interior and exterior detailing services, operating specialized cleaning equipment, and ensuring vehicles are presented in excellent condition.
Automotive Detailers play a key role in enhancing vehicle appearance, protecting vehicle surfaces, and delivering a positive customer experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Wash, dry, and clean vehicle exteriors using approved products and techniques. Vacuum, shampoo, and clean vehicle interiors, including carpets, upholstery, dashboards, and trim. Apply waxes, polishes, protectants, and other detailing products to preserve vehicle appearance. Clean windows, mirrors, wheels, tires, and engine compartments as required. Inspect vehicles for cleanliness and quality before delivery to customers or display. Operate detailing equipment such as pressure washers, buffers, polishers, extractors, and vacuums. Remove stains, odors, and minor cosmetic imperfections when possible. Maintain inventory of detailing supplies and notify management when restocking is needed. Follow company safety procedures and proper chemical handling practices. Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards. Assist with moving, parking, and staging vehicles when required. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach for extended periods. Ability to perform repetitive motions such as scrubbing, polishing, and vacuuming. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to operate detailing tools and equipment safely. Sufficient visual acuity to identify dirt, stains, scratches, and other vehicle imperfections. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous automotive detailing or car wash experience preferred but not required. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record may be required. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to follow instructions and safety guidelines. Working Conditions Fast-paced automotive, dealership, fleet, or detailing shop environment. Frequent exposure to cleaning chemicals, water, and vehicle exhaust. May require weekend, evening, or holiday work based on business needs. Responsibilities
- Wash, dry, and detail vehicle exteriors.
- Vacuum and clean vehicle interiors, including carpets, seats, and upholstery.
- Clean windows, mirrors, wheels, tires, and trim.
- Apply wax, polish, and protective coatings to vehicle surfaces.
- Remove dirt, stains, odors, and minor cosmetic imperfections.
- Operate detailing equipment such as buffers, polishers, pressure washers, and vacuums.
- Inspect vehicles to ensure cleanliness and quality standards are met.
- Maintain detailing supplies, tools, and equipment.
- Follow safety procedures and proper handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
- Move and position vehicles as needed.
- Deliver vehicles in showroom-ready condition and ensure customer satisfaction.
Requirements
- Strength and Endurance.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around vehicles for extended periods (often 6–10+ hours per shift).
- Ability to bend, kneel, squat, crouch, and reach frequently.
- Ability to lift and carry detailing equipment, supplies, buckets, and tools (commonly 25–50 lbs / 11–23 kg).
- Sufficient upper-body strength to operate buffers, polishers, extractors, pressure washers, and vacuums.
- Dexterity and Coordination.
- Good hand-eye coordination for precision cleaning and polishing.
- Fine motor skills for working on small interior and exterior details.
- Ability to use hand tools and power equipment safely and effectively.
- Stamina.
- Capacity to perform repetitive motions such as wiping, scrubbing, polishing, and vacuuming throughout the day.
- Ability to work at a consistent pace while maintaining attention to detail.
- Vision.
- Good visual acuity (with corrective lenses if needed) to identify:.
- Paint defects.
- Scratches and swirl marks.
- Dirt, stains, and contamination.
- Missed spots during cleaning.
- Environmental Tolerance.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures, including hot, cold, humid, or outdoor conditions.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals, soaps, waxes, and odors while using appropriate protective equipment.
- Ability to work around noise from pressure washers, vacuums, and shop equipment.

- Ability to follow safety procedures and chemical handling guidelines.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (gloves, safety glasses, masks/respirators when required).
